Sorry for being vague, but this is a good one to go into blindly. This is a really good story with a strong, and strongly executed, premise, the ending of which highlights the particular darkness one may confront in such an odd situation. Bev Vincent’s “Phase Shift,” was easily the highlight of the anthology for me, and centers around a house and its inhabitants confronted by a strange anomaly. Kelley Armstrong and Jon McGoran get the book off to a strong start, the latter presenting a really interesting story of time travel. There are several stories that stand out as being incredibly strong, but there are also a number of mediocre entries, and one, “We Should Listen To Some Shostakovich,” that is downright awful. However, while I mostly enjoyed my time with The Truth Is Out There, I can’t help but feel that it is a weaker anthology than its predecessor, Trust No One. As a long-time fan of The X-Files, going back to the pilot episode in 1993, I’m delighted by the resurgence and interest in the on-going investigations led by FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully (aka, The FBI’s Most Unwanted), and the anthology format provides readers and audiobook listeners with plenty of interesting new cases from various writers.

So, in the end, the truth really wasn't fully told to my satisfaction! But, maybe there's plans to continue the adventures of Mulder & Scully in the works, to go along with the new Movie that will be out in 2006. And were did Mulder & Scully go? And what becomes of Agent Doggett & Reyes?. They couldn't have known Smoking Man was in there. What, just one Super Soldier, that's it? And, why did the helicopters shoot at the mountain range at the end. But, it seemed the Super soldier storyline ended to abruptly in the last two hour show. But, it was dropped and forgotten until the last two seasons, which the first show, which was good by the way was with Lucy Lawless. The Super soldier storyline actually dates back to the very first season. Unlike other reviews, I enjoyed Scully's baby and that whole storyline. But after Mulder was kidnapped and enter Agent Doggett and Agent Reyes, I think that Chris Carter was so afraid that those two characters weren't going to be accepted, his writing started to slip a little.
It was professionally written and well acted. The separate story lines were great as stand alone episodes, but the Alien Conspiracy was the meat & potatoes of the show. I have every season on disc, and watch them all the time.
